Address the Elephant Named “Politics”

Before we start delving into ministry web design it’s super important to address the elephant in the room named Politics. When it comes to ministries there are a lot of passionate people who are giving their time, skills, money and resources to see that ministry grow and function. That being said like most things designing and redesigning your website can be a volatile subject.

Redesigning:
Let’s start with redesigning for example. Someone at some point built your website. That someone was probably told by some one else how to design it. And then there’s the person who’s been updating the website all these years. Redesign can feel like the hard work they put into creating the website has been taken for granted or worse isn’t liked. What’s the purpose of Twitter?

Someone said to me, “What’s the purpose of Twitter? You can’t say anything worthy in 140 characters.” Well first of all that statement would fit nicely into a Twitter post, or “tweet”, with 60+ characters left to grow.

But believe it or not I hear statements like this one on a regular basis. To really understand what exactly Twitter is we need to understand that it’s created a whole new type of dynamic communication and user relations. Like it or not it’s being used by thousands of people every day. So let’s put personal opinions aside for a moment and take a look at what makes it such a great tool for communicating then ask ourselves whether we should use it or not for ministries and churches.

From Facebook to The City

For many years the websites for business, organizations, ministries and churches have been information based. Static, stationary and lacking movement. But over the past 7 years with the advent of social networking sites like myspace, facebook, twitter and others, we’ve seen and experienced a mew active and connected use for the internet.

Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg described one of the main goals of facebook as a “stream”. The concept behind the “steam” is to pull all the different things going on in your life and your friends life into this one constant flow. Facebook has released updates to their site on a regular basis constantly trying to improve the “stream” and how it’s users interact with it.
